Griffin, John. The Evils of Persecution ; and the Advantages of the British Constitution: A Sermon, Occasioned by The Death of Mr. J. S. Charrier, Late French Master of the Royal Academy in his Majesty's Dock-Yard, Portsmouth; who fled from France, in 1764, on account of the Persecution of the Protestants. Portsmouth: Printed and Sold by Mottley, Harrison, and MIller, &c., c. 1820. First Edition. [11654].  Charrier was a Frenchman, a Protestant, who fled the persecution by the Roman Catholics of his home country. He had been captured when in command of a French merchant vessel and paroled on his honor in England. He soon embraced an evangelical faith, and settled in Portsmouth as a teacher a school for the members of the British Navy. An irony is that he was appointed to the post by the same naval officer who had previously captured him.

[11651].  Relates the history and formation of the Society, the progress of the Society - he reviews the progress of each of the foreign mission fields, the character of the Society, the influence of the Society, and the testimonies of the Divine presence and blessing of the Society.

Griffin, John. The Jennerian Discovery : or Testimonials in favour of the Cow-Pox Inoculation; with a statement of the Nature, Progress and Advantages of that Mild and Permanent Preventive of the Small-Pox. "...the more immediate object of this discourse, which, as has already been intimated, is not so much to evince the falsehood of skepticism as a theory, as to display its mischievous effects, contrasted with those which result from the belief of a Deity and a future state." - p. 12.

[11612].  The text is 2 Corinthians 2:16, "And who is sufficient for these things?" A sermon on the duties of the Christian pastor.

Lester, C. Edwards; Foster, Andrew. The Life and Voyages of Americus Vespucius; with Illustrations concerning the Navigator, and the Discovery of the New World. New Haven: Horace Mansfield, 1853. Fourth Edition. [11582]. A valuable history based in part on Vespucius's own letters.

Lowrie, Walter; Clark, Matthew St. Clair. American State Papers. Indian Affairs (2 volumes) Class 2, Vols. 1-2. Documents of the Legislative and Executive, of the Congress of the United States...&c. Washington: Gales and Seaton, 1832-1834. [11597]. These two volumes cover the years 1789 to 1827, and includes all of the documents pertaining to Indian tribes in connection with the government of the United States. They begin with the treaty with the Six Nations, Wyandots, and others, of 1789, presented to the Congress by President George Washington. The last Treaty is with the Creeks in 1825.

Paige, Reed. Obedience to the Laws of Civil Rulers, a Duty Enjoined in the Scriptures : A Sermon, delivered at Hancock, August 20th, 1812; the Day recommended by the President of the United States, for "Public Humiliation and Prayer".Concord, N. H.: Printed by I. & W. R. Hill, 1812. First Edition. [11615].  War against Great Britain had been declared, and President Monroe called for a national day of prayer and fasting. Rev. Paige defends the call to war, somewhat unusual for a minister of New England, for New England in general opposed the war as detrimental to her economy of trade.
