Gray cloth with silver lettering, small round paper label on spine, 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches, 113 untrimmed pp., 4 pp. of adverts for Winter's books at the back. Paper address label of the bibliophile John S. Mayfield on the rear pastedown with his small sheet of notes regarding this book laid in. Bought by Mayfield from the Park Book Shop, Washington, DC, Dec. 27, 1968. Good. Hardcover.

Inscribed on the ffep: "All the flowers were in their pride / On the day when Rupert died. William Winter. Done for Dewitt Miller. May 10, 1893."

DeWitt Miller (1857-1911), book collector, lyceum lecturer, and literary critic.

Typographical error corrected in ink by the author, p. 6. Error in quotation corrected in ink by the author, p. 66. This copy formerly belonged to Dewitt Miller, Forest Glen, Maryland, for whom the author wrote the inscription. Miller's signature on rear pastedown; his emboss stamp on the last page of text.
