17 full issues plus a few partials. In addition, a recent "Bicentennial Issue" from 1996. All 23 x 17 1/2 inches, the 1880s issues have 8 pages each. Printed on pulp paper, the edges are tattered and brittle. These are scarce survivors. Shipped flat. Fair.
This historic publication began in 1852 as the Boonville Ledger. Twenty years later it became The Boonville Herald and Adirondack Tourist. They contain some national news and much local news of the Adirondack region.
Includes a "Personal" column of local gossip. Many local adverts.
An example of contents: the December 13th, 1888 issue has a column on the front page named "Adirondack Echoes" relating the organization of a Sportsman's Club. This includes news from the Fulton Chain hatchery, and an appeal to protect whitetail does. Also, a plea to prevent the killing of "ruffled grouse or partridge and woodcock for market. In this section hundreds are killed annually and shipped to market and the result is that these birds are becoming scarce and unless the wholesale slaughter is prevented there will be few of these native birds to hunt in the future."
Many, many interesting Adirondack tidbits such as this may be found in this scarce group of newspapers.
