This volume has a lengthy, in-depth article on the history of the Presbyterian Church in Montana. Apart from some earlier brief work, the first permanent Presbyterian missionary in the region was Rev. George G. Smith, who arrived at Bannack in June, 1864. Ironically, Rev. Smith had desired to enter the missionary field in Gaboon, Africa, "but finding that it was easier for the Board to get missionaries for West Africa than for Montana, he chose the latter field." There is much primary information in this article, as it makes use of journals and eye witnesses.
Other items of interest in this volume include Montana at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition; Montana at the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, several Biographies and Histories including about Governor Ashley, Indian Legends, &c.
