Maroon blindstamped publisher's cloth, worn at the edges, corners & ends, 6 1/2 x 9 inches, front inside end paper hinge appears to have been reglued at some time. Ex Presbyterian historical society (Texarkana) with gift inscription on tp, white paper label base of spine, call numbers in pencil at Preface. Fine steel engravings by Sartain - frontispiece of Gideon Blackburn and 7 additional portraits, all with tissue guards & facsimile signatures. xiii., 735 pp. with an extensive name index. Text block tight, pages generally clean with some foxing to and opposite the plates. Good. Hardcover.

"[The book] is confined to the portion of the State upon and south of Wabash Railroad, from Danville to Naples, and east of the Illinois River, with the exceptions of Hardin, Calhoun county, and the sketch of Aratus Kent...About a second volume, which may embrace the remaining portions of the State, I have at present formed no purpose." - Preface.

No second volume was ever published.

This History begins about 1797 and contains many biographies and synopses of each synod and presbytery meeting from then until 1879. Includes reviews of individual congregations.
