This is the first edition of these Revolutionary Records to have been published. The manuscripts had been bound in 1822, but were not printed. Out of the 16 volumes of bound manuscripts everything pertaining to the Revolutionary Period in New York State was extracted and put to print in these two large volumes. The 2 volume set Journal of the New York Provisional Congress (1842) refers often to the manuscripts, and it was felt that these should be published entire, as a reference set for the researcher.
The set has the following folding b/w plates: Plan of Fort Montgomery, 1776; Topographical Map of the Northern Part of New York Island, Exhibiting the Plan of Fort Washington, now Fort Knyphausen; Chevaux de Frise, Battery and Chains (single plate); Plan of the Attack of the Forts Clinton & Montgomery, by Sir Henry Clinton, 1777; A Plan of the Surprise of Stoney Point, 1779
This record is in chronological order, and contains the COMPLETE transcription of every manuscript. They treat with such topics as the complete Muster Rolls of the New York Continentals; Regulation of Prices; Proceedings regarding Tories; Many Petitions by individuals, soldiers, officers, on all manner of Military Topics; Records of Courts Martial; Letters; Voting Returns; Lists of Names who signed or did not sign certain Petitions; Military Warrants; Militia Record; Suffolk Co. Census; &c., &c.
