Alfred Nevin (1816-1890), Presbyterian minister, editor, and author. He was educated at Jefferson College and at Judge Reed's law school, which was the law department of Dickinson College, receiving his degree in 1837. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Carlisle in 1840. For twenty years he served in the pastorate, acquiring an experience of life and a wide acquaintance with other ministers which was invaluable in his later career as a writer, editor, and publisher. He pastored a German Lutheran church, and several Presbyterian churches, one of which was Alexander Presbyterian Church, named in honor of Dr. Archibald Alexander, first professor of Princeton. He also edited several Presbyterian publications, and served his denomination in prominent positions, including as moderator of the General Assembly.
