A Lady. A Token of the Heart (Appleton's Miniature Classical Library). New-York: D. Appleton and Company, [1851]. [6482]
Green cloth stamped in blind, backstrip in gilt, 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 inches, all page edges gilt, waxed cream end papers, steel-engraved frontispiece, hole in the tissue guard about the size of a dime. 126 generally clean pp., a few with a small smudge, a few with foxing. 4 pp. publisher's catalogue. Very good. Hardcover.
Preface signed E. M. M. - who refers to the author, and was not him/herself the author.
The imprint has the publisher at 200 Broadway, NYC; D. Appleton was at this address from 1851 to 1853. Beneath that address is that of Geo. S. Appleton, 148 Chestnut St., Philadelphia. A reference has him at that address from 1843 to 1849. So, we suggest the earliest date for the Broadway address, 1851.
Not quite a real "miniature," yet declared so by the publisher.
A collection of choice poems by American and British authors.
