Alexander, W. D.; Dodge, F. S.; Donn, John M. [MAP] Maui, Hawaiian Islands; Hawaii Territory Survey | Government Survey 1885. Washington: Government Printing Office, 1906. First Edition. [11888]

A very large lithographed map in bright colors, about 55 x 45 1/2 inches. There are splits in the first folds in the white portion of the bottom of the map; there are four thin toned spots, one with a tiny hole, in the first horizontal bottom fold; there is wrinkling near the large name of the map. These are fairly minor issues that a good conservator or framer can fix by backing the map before framing The map is dated 1885 and was included in the Hawaiian governor's report for 1906, published in 1907.  Good. Map.

"Andrew B. Graham Co., Lithographers, Washington, D. C." in lower map margin. "Primary Triangulation by W. D. Alexander and S. E. Bishop. Boundaries and Topography by W. B. Alexander, C. J. Lyons, M. D. Monsarrat, F. S. Dodge, S. E. Bishop, E. D. Baldwin and W. R. Lawrence. Map by F. S. Dodge. Scale 1:60000, 1885. Brought up to date in 1903 by John M. Donn."

This genuine, antique map is fresh to the market. We have removed it from the House of Representatives 59th Congress, 2d Session, Document No. 5: Annual Reports of the Department of the Interior for 1906. It has never before been offered for sale and represents a brilliant opportunity for someone to acquire this rare map for their collection.

This enormous map of Maui uses color and other markings to distinguish land use. It marks out harbors, settlements, plantations, the railroad, irrigation ditches, and is considered to be the first modern or scientific map of the island. The rugged nature of the island is depicted by topographical lines.

This historic map will compliment any collection of Hawaiiana.
