Silas Horton Durand (1833-1918), b. Bradford Co., Pennsylvania; d. Salisbury, Maryland. Durand studied law and in 1860 was admitted to the bar. He was converted in 1864 and baptized by Elder Gilbert Beebe, soon after he entered the ministry and left behind his law practice. After three years of itinerant work he accepted a call to the church in Southampton, Pennsylvania, where he remained for many years.
He wrote several books of Bible studies, and with Elder P. G. Lester edited a Hymn and Tune Book for use in Primitive Baptist Churches, which found wide favor among those churches.
