Hutton, Rebecca L. Poems of Affection, compiled as a Souvenir for her Children and Grandchildren. Np: Np , ca 1890. First Edition. [2353]

No imprint. "1890" written on title page in pencil.

Bookplate of J. Wetherill Hutton, a native of Philadelphia and a prominent Quaker educator.

The book is fair only, with stiff floral wraps and white cloth over the spine, some edge chipping and old staining on the covers, affecting some pages within with the rear end papers badly stained. Shaken, but complete. With the engraved portrait of the author and 67 unnumbered leaves (leaves printed on recto only, i.e. 134 pp. printed on front side only). 8 x 6 1/4 inches. Fair. Stiff wraps.

Rare with two locations recorded at Worldcat, both in Indiana.

Many of the pieces were written upon the death of children, and some of the individuals of whom the poem was written are identified in pencil. The time in which some of these were written appear to be in the 1860's. The 1890 pencil date on the tp may not be the date when this was published. Worldcat suggests the 1870's.

Mrs. Rebecca L. (Shaw) Hutton (1821-1885), b. Waynesville, OH; d. Richmond, IN. "Mrs. Hutton published many poems which were received well in this county [Wayne Co., IN]. Mr. [Jesse M.] and Mrs. Hutton were married for over 40 years."
