The Presbytery of Mankato came into being when the English speaking churches of the Synod of Dakota separated from the Indian congregations, which remained as the Presbytery of Dakota. The boundaries of the new presbytery were "That portion of Minnesota lying south and west of the...Presbytery of St. Paul, and the Presbytery of Winona, the bounds of said Presbytery of Mankato, being as follows: On the eastern lines of Faribault, Waseca, LeSeuer and Sibley counties; on the north by the southern lines of Rice, Scott, Carver, McLeod, Meeker, Kandiyohi, Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle and Big Stone counties."
