Gherardini, Giovanni. Voci e Maniere di Dire Italiane additate a' futuri vocabolaristi, Vol. I. e Vol. II. Milano: 1879. [984]

Two volume set. Leather spine with brown hardcover boards. The spines are attractive but the binding is not of high quality, with some cracking of the inside end paper hinges. 27 x 18 cm, vol. i. lii. + 1000 pp.; vol. ii. (6), 846, 50, (2) pp. 3 leaves of the preliminaries to vol. i. with small damage to the top margin, old stains in the top margin of the first part of the same volume (see 3rd picture). Italian text. Good. Hardcover.

OCLC 901002693. This reprint of the 1838-1840 edition is scarce, with Worldcat recording only one location, in the Netherlands. No imprint other than "Milano." We think this is the 1838-1840 original printing issued with new title pages.

Giovanni Gherardini (1778-1861), "Milanese philologist and lexicographer, who played a part in the debate over Romanticism with his translation (from the French) of A. W. Schlegel's Corso di letteratura drammatica (1817), though the notes reflect his own eclectic stance. He also wrote libretti, including that for Rossini's La gazza ladra (1817). - The Oxford Companion to Italian Literature
