Sixty volumes exquisitely bound in half brown morocco, boards and end papers with pink, gold, and brown marbling; spines with six gilt-decorated panels, raised hubs, gilt titles and gilt dates at the bottom of the spines. Each volume 7 3/8 x 5 1/2 inches; top page edges gilt. Slight fade to spines, a few high points with small rubbing, otherwise completely free of wear or signs of use. Each with frontispiece and letter-press tissue guard. The texts are on bright white pages with no foxing. Fine. Hardcover.

This set was privately bound and presents a very high quality set of outstanding presence. 

[PROVENANCE]: The historical background of this set is remarkable. In 1931, an estate auction in the Schenectady, New York area was attended by a local gentleman who purchased several pieces of antique furniture - most notably, a massive cherry bookcase. The bookcase was sold fully loaded, containing this complete 60-volume collection. The set stayed housed in that very bookcase for nearly a century until the gentleman’s estate was recently liquidated. His grandson reached out to us regarding the library, and we proudly purchased the books directly from the family.

The set is complete. It includes all of the first Romances issued plus the New Series and the New Series II. You will find a complete list of the volumes in the photos accompanying this listing.
