This book chronicles and examines the growth of the church in India. It was one of the books that influenced Donald McGavren and the Church Growth Movement in the United States and elsewhere. McGavren is quoted as saying, "I lit my fire at Pickett's candle." The book will give you valuable insight into the origins of this movement.

Jarrell Waskom Pickett (1890-1981), b. Jonesville, Texas; a graduate of Asbury College and a Methodist pastor and missionary. He was asked by E. Stanley Jones to assume leadership of an English-speaking Methodist congregation in Lucknow, India, and his acceptance led to his appointment to that post. In 1935 he was made a Methodist Bishop by the Central Conference of Southern Asia. He retired from missionary service in 1956 and took a teaching position at Boston University's School of Theology.
