Translated by Ervin Bonkáló, the son of the author.

Alexander Bonkáló (1880-1959), Hungarian scholar and linguist of Rusyn descent who focused on Rusyn, Ukrainian, and Russian languages and literature. He translated the works of Tolstoi and Dostoevsky into Hungarian. He was critical of Stalinism and the anti-Christian policies of the USSR.

"[This book] deserves special attention. In it, the author provided his personal interpretation of the history of the Rusyn people; determined the area inhabited by Rusyns (from Poprad in the west to the upstream of the Tysa/Tisza River in the east); classified the Rusyn sub-ethnic groups...; wrote about Rusyn culture, customs, literature and folklore, the political and economic situation of the Rusyn lands, and the history of the Greek Catholic and Orthodox denominations among the Rusyns. Some of Bonkáló's views were erroneous, but his linguistic observations have remained valuable until now." - rusnsocietydotcom, May 6, 2022.
