Barnes, Albert. Presbyterianism: Its Affinities. Philadelphia: Presbyterian Publication Committee, ca. 1864. [9114]
Printed wrapper, somewhat soiled, 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches, 42 clean pp. Good. Pamphlet.
Originally delivered as an address to the Presbyterian Historical Society and printed in the American Presbyterian and Theological Review, October 1863. Intended to show as a defense of Presbyterianism, the truths that attach to that system which are generally accepted by non-Presbyterians.
One of those truths is the unity of the human race. Barnes treats with slavery and the American Civil War on this basis, on the earlier 1818 Presbyterian statements against slavery, and upon the duty of Presbyterians to fight for their own liberties.
