Archibald Forbes (1838-1900). b. Morayshire, Scotland; d. London, England. Forbes was a war correspondent, having enlisted in the 1st Royal Regiment of Dragoons, and invalided out of the service in 1867, he turned to reporting for the Daily News to cover the Franco-Prussian War. His revolutionary use of the telegraph brought his first-hand reports to the British public in a remarkably timely manner. His correspondence and books covered the major military movements in Serbia, Turkey, Russia, Afghanistan, the Zulu War, and the Sudan.
