"The English-speaking Orthodox do not have a commonly accepted and officially approved translation of the liturgical texts or of the 'rule of prayer.' Although this certainly creates many difficulties, the multiplicity of translations in usage today is probably inevitable and even necessary, given the diversity existing within the English language itself...The Manual of Eastern Orthodox Prayers was published in 1945 in Great Britain by the Fellowship of St. Alban and St. Sergius. Though most widely used in England, it also found an enthusiastic reception in America. Between 1945 and 1975 it was reprinted eight times, which means that it constitutes of the major events in the history of Orthodox translations into English.
