Austin Phelps, D. D. (1820-1890), Congregational pastor and professor of Sacred Rhetoric at Andover, elected President of Andover in 1869. Dr. Phelps was born in Brookfield, Massachusetts, and was ordained pastor of the Pine Street Congregational Church, Boston, Massachusetts, 1842. Phelps published works on hymnology, devotion, rhetoric and regeneration along with some individual sermons and addresses.
