Cyrus Whitman Hodges (1802-1851), b. Leicester, Vermont; d. Bristol, Vermont. His father died when he was six years of age, and he was placed with a family with no religious interests, where he grew up ignorant of the gospel. He was afterwards placed in a Christian home, and their warm and loving family life influenced him greatly. He professed faith at the age of nineteen and joined with the Congregationalists. He became convinced of the Baptist way of baptism, and united with them in 1822. He was licensed to preach, and later ordained. He served as pastor of churches in Vermont and eastern New York State.
"While, however, the social and intellectual character of Mr. Hodges always commanded respect, his chief claim to an affectionate remembrance in the church must rest upon his moral virtues. He wa a true Christian Pastor. He believed heartily, entirely. He lived under a constant sense of responsibility, and laboured as one who expected to give an account of his stewardship. This sincerity, this thorough consecration to his work, was the true secret of his effective and useful ministry." - Rev. Sewall S. Cutting, in Sprague's Annals of the American Pulpit, vol. 6 p. 726.
