US House of Representatives. Reports of Committees of The House of Representatives, at the First Session of the Twenty-Second Congress, begun and held at the City of Washington, December 7, 1831 and in the Fifty-Sixth Year of the Independence of the United States. In Five Volumes. Washington: Printed by Duff Green, 1831. First Editions. [11869]

Five volumes in light brown sheep, scuffed and edge-worn yet with good joints (no cracks) and all tightly bound. Each 9 x 5 3/4 inches with a red leather spine title label and a small paper number label, that of vol. i. is partly missing (see pics). Reports vary in length; the set takes up 10 1/2 inches of shelf space. A few institutional name or other stamps, no card pockets or modern library matter. Good. Hardcover.

There are 325 individual reports of various lengths in this five-volume set.

Andrew Jackson is President, John C. Calhoun is Vice President, and the Chief Justice was John Marshall. Nat Turner's slave rebellion took place in August of 1831, and it is the year of Alexis de Tocqueville's insightful visit to the United States. The process of removing Indians to the west of the Mississippi was in its early stages.
