Objections had been made in print against some of the Bible versions published by the British and Foreign Bible Society. The author inspects the Welsh, Irish, Mohawk, Calmuc, Chinese, Turkish, and Bengalee versions and defends the translations from the aspersions of their critics.
Thomas Pell Platt (1798-1852), b. London, England; d. Surrey, England. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was early connected with the British and Foreign Bible Society, serving for some time as their librarian. An orientalist and translator, he prepared an edition of the Syriac Gospels and edited an Amharic version of the Bible.
