President John Quincy Adams presents his message to the United States Congress, which take up the first 16 pages of this volume. The subjects he touches upon are then underscored by a series of important documents supporting his message, with emphasis on the State Department, the Department of War, the Postmaster General, and the General Land Office.
These present very detailed information on treaties, troops, naval affairs, and Indian affairs. There are several letters from and to James Barbour, the Secretary of War, and Thomas L. McKenney, the Superintendent of Indian Affairs. There are many, many folding charts detailing costs and the expenses of the federal government in these different areas.
