A biting, sarcastic piece in which the author poses as an Episcopalian, takes excerpts from published Episcopalian authors, and "proves" that only the members of the Protestant Episcopal Church will make it into heaven.
Attributed to Bennet Tyler at WorldCat, with only six print copies found. We think it is c. 1820 based upon remarks about recent publications in the text.
Bennet Tyler (1783-1858), Congregational minister from Connecticut. His father was a farmer. Tyler was graduated at Yale in 1804 and became pastor of the Congregational church in South Britain, Connecticut, (1808-1822). From 1822 until 1828 he was president of Dartmouth college, and was pastor of the 2d Congregational church in Portland, Maine, from 1828 till 1833.
His principal works are "History of the New Haven Theology, in Letters to Clergymen" (Hartford, 1837); "A Review of Day on the Will" (1837) ; "Memoir of Reverend Asahel Nettleton, D.D." (1844) ; "Nettleton's Remains" (1845) ; "A Treatise on the Sufferings of Christ" (New York, 1845) ; " A Treatise on New England Revivals" (1846); and two series of "Letters to Dr. Horace Bushnell on Christian Nurture" (1847-'8). After his death his "Lectures on Theology " were published with a memoir by his son-in-law, the Reverend Nahum Eale, D. D. (Boston, 1859). – from Appleton.
