The text is 2 Timothy 4:2, "Preach the word; be instant in season, and out of season." The sermon explores the two phrases, "Preach the Word," - the preacher's subject; and the manner in which he should discharge ministerial duties, "be instant in season and out of season."
The Rev. Jacob Flint preaches the ordination sermon of his brother, Rev. James Flint. Rev. Jacob Flint (1768-1835), b. Reading, Massachusetts; d. Marshfield, Massachusetts. He graduated at Harvard in 1794, and beginning in 1798 was the pastor of the Congregational Church in Cohasset, where he remained for forty years. Rev. Flint was Unitarian in belief. He wrote a history of the town of Cohasset.
