Rev. Dr. John Anderson (1796-1864), Church of Scotland minister, amateur archaeologist and geologist, an elected Fellow of the Geological Society of London. Anderson discovered fossil fish in the yellow sandstone at Dura Den and through lectures and scientific papers was responsible for revealing this important site to the world. Some of his discoveries are on display at the Bell-Pettigrew Museum of Natural History at the University of St. Andrews.
