Martin, G. Currie; Crippen, T.G.; et al. Transactions of the Congregational Historical Society, Vols. 1-21, 1901-1972. London | Liechtenstein: Congregational Historical Society & Kraus Reprint. [11501]

Uniformly bound in brown buckram, a mixed set of original issues and the Kraus Reprint series from the 1960s. Most of them are the reprints. In all, a complete run of 21 volumes in 17 books (some have more than one year). The set was bound in 1971. Each in very good bindings, 9 x 6 inches, page numbers vary; the set takes up about 24 inches of shelf space. Includes the index volume for vols 1-15; the later volumes have their own indices.  There are many folding maps in the books.  An ex seminary library set with the seminary name on the spines, name stamped on the closed page edges, bookplates, several name stamps within the books; never had card pockets. One book has what may be white chalk marks on the binding.  Very good. Hardcover.

A complete run of this periodical, 1901 to 1972. You will find information here that cannot be found elsewhere.

The stated purpose of the Society was 1. To encourage research into the origins and history of Congregationalism; 2. To issue transactions giving the results of and discussions on such research; and 3. To print MSS and documents, and to republish rare books and tracts. - Vol. I. page 1.

As an example, this first volume contains an Early Nonconformist Bibliography; History of Congregationalism in Birmingham; Bourton Church Covenant; Biographical Sketch of Robert Browne, with a Lost Treatise by him; John Bunyan and Thomas Marsom; Puritans in Devon; The Indulgence of Devonshire (1672); Diary of the Gurney Family; Prison Correspondence of an Ejected Minister; Evangelization in Wales (16909); Congregationalism in Hampshire, with map; Historical Points of Contact between English and Scottish Congregationalism; Lists of Early Separatists; James Naylor, the Mad Quaker, with portrait; King William III and the Nonconformists; Letter of Hugh Owen of Bronclydwr; Gainsborough Old Hall and the Pilgrim Church; Puritanism in the Channel Isles; A Treatise of Reformation without Tarying for Anie; Papers relating to John Trendall; Isaac Watts, D.D., and his Church Book, his Family Bible, and a Letter by Him.

We want to emphasize that the above is an incomplete list of the contents of volume one only. There are 21 volumes in this set! In addition to historical studies, the rare set includes treatises, letters, and documents not published elsewhere. This is truly a remarkable resource for the scholar studying the history of Congregationalism and Puritanism in Great Britain.
