The editor was Bishop William Logan Harris (1817-1887), b. near Mansfield, Ohio; d. New York City. He considered his conversion as having taken place at a camp meeting in Ohio in 1834, after which he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. After serving as an itinerant, pastor, and author, he was elected Bishop in 1872.
