A history of the High Church and Tractarian Movement in the American Episcopal Church. It states that the Episcopal Church was in ruins after the American Revolution, describes some pre-Tractarian American High Churchmen, the impact of the Tracts and the beginnings of Ritualism, the "Second Ritualistic War" that occurred after the American Civil War, the development of Episcopal monastic communities, the movement in the Mid-west, and the McGarvey Secession. The study ends with the influence of the High Church Movement upon the Prayer Book revision, and a description of the changes within the Episcopal Church due to this movement.
