Based on Alexander Garden's Anecdotes of the Revolutionary War in America, 1st series, Charleston, 1822. Printed in Stamford, England, with a faux imprint of Washington.

"These Records embrace the period of the American struggle with the King and Court and Oligarchy of England, from the year 1775 to that of 1783. An American officer, Major Garden, aid-de-camp to General Green of Lee's Partizan Legion, published at Charleston, in the year 1822, a most interesting volume of the heroes and worthies, and most distinguished events and achievements, of that war, which ended in the dismemberment from the British Crown and Kingdom of the finest Colonies in the world. One copy only, I believe, of the publication found its way into this country [England]...Struck with the manner of the work, the excellence of its principles, and its apparent tone of strict veracity, I felt desirous of rendering it available to the cause of Freedom here at home, by making my countrymen as much acquainted with its contents as circumstances would permit...The Declaration of Independence of America was one of the noblest efforts of a united people extant in history; it was not only a declaration, but was fought out of the fire and wrath of fierce and powerful enemies." - Preface.

Over fifty entries, each with a brief introduction or explanation, with such heads as General Marion, Colonel Lawrens, American Clergy, Sergeant Jasper, General Greene, British Atrocities, General Sumter, Mrs. Charles Elliot, General Gaddesden, Colonel Browne, General Washington, Lord Cornwallis, Colonel Moncrief, Patriotism of the American Ladies, Franklin Clubs, Holy War, A Standing Army, The Tory, Employment of the Savages, Major André, George the Third, Eve and her Blacks, Colonel Tarleton, The Haughty Great, Desolation of Wyoming, General Arnold, American Victory, American Manners.
