Sir William Hamilton (1788-1856), Scottish metaphysician and educator. He was a teacher at the University of Edinburgh; he was elected to the chair of logic and metaphysics in 1836. He worked to combine the Scottish philosophy of common sense with the views held by Immanuel Kant, and is credited with introducing the views of Kant to the British public.
