The first half or so of the book pertains to Harriet Livermore and to John Greenleaf Whittier, both natives of the Merrimac River Valley area. The second half of the book are poems by Miss Davis, mainly reflecting the views of a Christian women who enjoyed nature, was patriotic, and took an interest in the Temperance movement and local history and legends.
Rebecca Ingersoll Davis (1828-1906); she was a resident of East Haverhill, Massachusetts.
