Krummacher, F. W. Elijah the Tishbite. New-York: American Tract Society, ca. 1870. [11508]

Plum blind-stamped cloth, spine sunned, joints good, title in gilt to spine 6 x 4 1/4 inches. 458 clean pp., tight. Good. Hardcover.

Written by one of the leading European evangelical preachers of the 19th century, this sermon-study of the life of the prophet Elijah deals with themes familiar to Christians today. Elijah lives among a people hostile to God, is threatened by political leaders who demand his obedience, and struggles with fear, the pressure to conform, and struggles with trust in Divine Providence. His experience ends in a faithful trusting and triumph through the grace of God.

Translated from the German. Frederick William Krummacher, D.D (1796-1868), b. in Germany, Reformed pastor, instrumental in a revival among German Reformed churches. Krummacher was the author of several popular evangelical books republished in English in America (Elijah the Tishbite, The Suffering Saviour, &c.) and was the instructor of Philip Schaff, historian & theologian.
