This valuable medical journal was in print from 1845 to 1860. The focus of the publication is medical and surgical science. It includes recent discoveries, treatments, book reviews, case histories, lectures, &c.
This volume includes an editorial on the deficiencies natural to women that make them unable to perform the work of surgery and of medicine in general. Their weaknesses limit their usefulness to the practice of obstetrics, and only in established towns and cities, for they are not suited for the hardships of the rural doctor. (pp. 427-431).
