Brown leather spine & corners, marbled paper over card, gilt rules to spine and leather edges, 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches. The binding is scuffed and worn yet with good joints having no cracks. The front end paper hinge is partly open, with nothing detached. Includes the free end papers, half-title, extra engraved title page, printed title page, then [i]-viii, [1]-208 text pages, plus plates. The second part has a frontispiece, extra engraved title page, regular title page, [iv], 1-186 text pages, plus plates. There is an old hand-sewn repair near the center of the volume. We counted 187 copperplate engravings, with nothing obviously removed. The engravings appear sharp and clearly-defined, indicating an early print run. Good. Hardcover.
