Thomas Lape (1801-1879), b. West Sand Lake, Rensselaer Co., New York; d. Athens, Greene Co., NY. A Lutheran minister, he prepared for the ministry at Hartwick Seminary and at Union College, Schenectady. He was pastor of several churches and the author of several practical theological books.

"He was an instructive preacher; a gentle, amiable, cheerful and faithful pastor; a good husband and father; a humble Christian and a sincere friend. He stood well among the clergy of the State. He was one of the founders of the Hartwick Synod, has been its president, and filled other offices of trust and responsibility in this body, having remained connected with it for forty-seven years, and until his death." - Rev.
