A proposal, with estimated costs for each section, for a canal in Michigan Territory to connect Lake Michigan, at Milwaukee, with the navigable waters of Rock River.
"This canal will be a work of considerable magnitude, and of inestimable importance to the Territory, and of as much importance to the General Government, perhaps, as any other improvement of a similar kind, in proportion to its extent." - p. 2.
The canal was begun but abandoned in 1844 due to the improvements of railroads and their coming to the Territory. By 1857, the first railroad from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi was complete.
