A collection of letters and reports from various engineers working ont he Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, detailing their work and the costs of it.
A sample, by Samuel Babcock, describing the Ohio River: "The most dangerous and difficult part of the river, by reason of trees, was the channel opposite Brush Creek, about twenty miles above Maysville: from that were taken, I judge, not less than one hundred and fifty large trees, which had every appearance of having had lain there for a great length of time: they were (with a single exception) taken out, carried through the rapids, and deposited on the shore below...The next most dangerous place was the channel opposite Buffington's Island: he operations there were conducted in the same manner as at Brush Creek."
