Coilyear, Ralf. The taill of Rauf Coilzear how he harbreit King Charlis. Edinburgh: [David Laing], [1822]. [6319]

Originally published by Robert Ledpreuik at Saint Andrews in 1572, this is the reprint published by David Laing in 1822. 16 leaves, 6 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches, red cloth over the fold, outer pages soiled. "Special Collection" in ink on front, several ink institutional stamps, small chip edge of front. This copy not printed in black letter (as was the original) except for the front leaf and the colophon. Good. Pamphlet.

The tale of Ralph the Collier.

This copy with manuscript marginalia noting a few differences between it and the original, implying the writer had seen the unique original. Also, notes that indicate this was reviewed for publishing, such as "Indent the last five lines of every stanza," stanzas numbered in ink, a few corrections to the text. The writer also notes that the original had a woodcut that followed the imprint at the end, "omitted here as apparently it has not the slightest reference to the poem itself."

This reprint is held by Harvard University; no other locations at WorldCat. WC also indicates that there is only one original known, printed at St. Andrews in 1572 by Robert Lekprenik. The only sales record for this reprint is from a 1924 Maggs Bros. catalogue.
