Bunyan, John; Burder, G. The Holy War made by King Shaddai upon Diabolus, to regain the Metropolis of the World: or, the Losing and Taking Again of the Town of Mansoul; A New Edition, with Explanatory, Experimental, and Practical Notes, by the Rev. G. Burder, Author of "Village Sermons," &c., &c. Exeter, [New Hampshire]: J. and B. Williams, 1837. [9799]

Tan cloth, brown leather spine title label, 12.5 x 7.3 cm (5 x 2 7/8 inches), 1846 owner's signature on ffep, (i)-viii., (9)-240 pp., complete. Tight binding, light foxing. Very good. Hardcover.

This work by Bunyan was first published in 1682, four years after The Pilgrim's Progress appeared in print. It is another allegorical gem, one that relates the recovery of a soul from the snares of the devil.

"John Williams, an Exeter native, began his printing business in 1818 with his brother Benjamin who was a book binder. The productive pair worked under the name of J. & B. Williams first as a printing and publishing business and then delving into stereotyping as well. There business was known to have been very large and profitable in its time...They enjoyed a long run of business lasting until 1840." - Deanna Dawson, Seacoastonline, Oct. 13, 2002.
