The two dates of celebration memorialized, first, the gathering of the church in England and departure for America, and second, the anniversary of the planting of the church in Dorchester. The book is a compilation of letters, addresses, and sermons which relate these histories. It also contains a record of the Proceedings of each.

Contributors include the Revs. J. H. Means, S. J. Barrows, Edmund Quincy Sewell Osgood, Rufus Ellis, Charles A. Humphreys, and Governor John D. Long, William Everett, Rev. Edward Everett Hale. Letters received and recorded include those from Gen. U. S. Grant, Josiah Quincy, O. W. Holmes, and E. W. Stoughton.
