Isaac Taylor Headland (1859-1942), b. Freedom, Pennsylvania; d. Alliance, Ohio. Educated at Mount Union College (Ohio) and at the Boston University School of Theology, Headland was ordained in 1890 and sent to China as a missionary under the auspices of the American Methodist Episcopal Mission.
"He was posted in Beijing and served as professor of science at Peking University (1890-1907) and as president of the Anglo-Chinese College in Fuzhou (1901-14)...After his return to the United States, Headland taught comparative religion at Mount Union College (1914-37)...He also published numerous articles and books illustrated with photographs of China." - National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian, online. Headland was a collector of Chinese art.
