Dr. Vellora "Lorin" Meek Henry (1854-1942), b. Brownsville, Oregon; d. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1891 he became a medical missionary to Egypt.

The first part of the book is about Dr. Henry and is compiled from his own autobiographical recollections, letters, and the recollections of his colleagues.

The second part is a history of the hospital at Assiut.
