Alonzo Ames Miner (18141-1895), b. Lempster, NH; d. Boston, MA. Dr. Miner was a Universalist minister and the second president of Tufts University. He began his career as a school teacher, was ordained in 1839, and he succeeded Hosea Ballou as pastor of the Second Universalist Church in Boston (1848), a post he held until his death. He was an active voice in several social movements, including that of Abolitionism and of Prohibition.
