Pliny Earle Chase (1820-1886), b. Worcester, MA; d. Haverford, PA. Chase was a Harvard College graduate; as a scientist he contributed to the fields of astronomy, electromagnetism, and cryptology. He was for many years professor of philosophy and logic in Haverford College.
