Pullen, John J. The Twentieth Maine: A Volunteer Regiment in the Civil War [SIGNED, with TLS]. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1957. 1st Edition.
Very good in good dust-jacket. Hardcover.
Signed John J. Pullen, Nov. 26, 1957 with inscription to Dr. Charles Lee, the Philadelphia critic, author, and professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania. "To Dr. Charles Lee with thanks for the opportunity to appear on your program. With best wishes, John J. Pullen, Nov. 26, 1957."
With TLS (typed letter, signed), signed by Pullen, on his personal stationary, dated August 9, 1983, thanking Dr. Lee for his radio addresses that promoted his book, and describing the difficult process of getting his book Comic Relief published, and of his wife's recent death by cancer.
The book is very good in blue cloth, with underlining and marginalia by Dr. Lee. The dust jacket is good to very good, with notes by Lee on the back panel, and a little edge-wear. We have added a clear protective wrapper to the dj.
Dr. Lee's comment on back panel of the dj: "National nightmare - written with exceptional felicity, sense of drama & color - vivid as Brady's photos."
