Educated at Centre College, Kentucky; Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary; and at Princeton Theological Seminary. "He was ordained in 1899 and served as pastor of various Kentucky churches before his missionary service in Japan alongside Harry White Myers from 1902 until his retirement in 1941.
