A reprint of the original edition of 1906. The author was Professor of Old Testament Literature and Exegesis at the MicCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago.
In the author's Preface to this edition, he comments: "Among some of us not so antiquated, there is a growing belief that the time is steadily approaching, when the emphasis of the Old Testament specialists will diminish critically, and Christian expositors will interpret the Old Testament more as the Jews in early Christian times intended. To them Moses, David and the Prophets were real authors and wrote in general what was ascribed to them. That is also the position maintained throughout this book."
