Illustrations by photograph & artist of locations around Philadelphia that have changed over the years, with musings on the changes. Locations are compared with old, mostly 19th-century photographs to the modern landscape of 1949.
"Probably a warning rather than an apology is due the person who opens these pages. To a non-Philadelphia, the book may be dull and incomprehensible. To many a Philadelphian, it may prove to be an uncomfortable irritant. Therefore, proceed at your own discretion."
